What I have found in my experience of more than 20 years, doing keyword analysis, is the never-ending single keywords used to try and be competitive. I can go and see the keywords used in Adwords Keyword Planner, and I will most likely find that there are millions of the same keywords used from different sources. A lot of the time, these are keywords not even relevant to your website. People just want to try and capture the most keywords used. They forget one thing, people who search the internet today, will type in questions, phrases, and they will not type in one-word keyword searches.

Questions and Phrase searches are called Long-Tail keywords, usually, 3 or more keywords, explained well by Wordtracker. Customize your pages to reflect Long-tail keywords will only enhance your traffic and conversion rates when you collectively match searches with your content.

Some Search Examples and Logic

If I were to type “where are the best cell phone deals” on the internet, what will come up? Well, click to find out! Now, if I were to type “where are the best cell phone deals in Canada“, what will come out? Again, click to find out! the first link offers, which is over 2.2 billion results; the second one offers over 1.4 billion results, hmm well you are getting closer. Now, try this phase, “where are the best cell phone deals in Canada Calgary” and now you receive results that are just over 138 million.

The fact is when you think ass-backwords a bit, doesn’t seem too logical, but that is how search engines locate the content you are looking for. In fact, to be more specific, try typing in those phrases using Quotations: ( ” search term to your region ” ) like -> ( where are the best cell phone deals in Canada Calgary” ) and now your results are just over 153 Thousand. What a difference!! By performing more research into your product and services, you can create more relevant organic searches.

Using Specific Search Phrases that Match your Content

Long-tail keywords will create more visibility on your website. When you have determined what you need to do, as ass-backward as it may seem, you can obtain much better results. In the early days of search engines, 1993-1998, people embedded several miss-spelled words to try and out think the user. When the user misspells a search, all be it by accident most of the time, the search results would vary on several levels.

Search engines, mainly Google, tried to address this over the years, they could not comprehend all the different search patterns occurring when delivering results.

Consequently, Google created their own algorithm. An algorithm that essentially skips over your meta-keywords altogether, delivers only the content description for your website (early 2000’s). People started to adjust to removing embedded-hidden keywords to follow suit with search engine policies. Designed mainly by Google, who have essentially become governors of the search engine rules and regulations.

Today, many search engines follow suit just to be compliant with user searches. Yes, some search engines design their own algorithm to stay competitive. However, it all starts with Google!

Something to be said about Google

Did you know, Google today, controls roughly 68% of internet searches. Wow, quite a feet and undertaking wouldn’t you say? Did you also know, Google processes more than 4.1 billion daily searches or 40,000 per second, which is extraordinary don’t you think?

People have realized, having lots of keywords embedded in their meta-tags, hidden on the web pages, were not returning results. Imagine that!

Google has done exceptionally well with their own analysis, they had realized, keywords can be paid for! Creating quality and relevant content, may not get you the top spot on the internet searches initially. At least without having to pay for it! But, as time goes on, updating your content regularly, will deliver more organic search results.

The internet has relevant networks, blogs, articles, and tools, available to everyone. These will help attract your target audience. Learn to use them or have someone educate you by showing you how. Some networks, blogs, and articles can also be considered backlinks, which will help increase your internet rankings. Relevant backlinks will help your overall goal in creating traffic to your website. Relevant content, consistency and monitoring changes on the internet will give you the edge you need.
